A BIG Weekend

this weekend we had two nights of Harriet's dance show and Kahi's big NO. 5 birthday. Ang did splendidly in creating the ballet bun from Harriet's limited hair resources. Harriet did great with a 2hr sat morning rehearsal and 4-5 hrs on sat and sun night from drop off to pick up after the show. She was on for all of 5 mins but looked so adorable. Sadly we were not allowed to take pics...we have to order their ones but will post when we get them. She was a xmas elf in a gorgeous red and green costume. Sat afternoon was Kahi's party, a great time was had by all at the indoor playground and ang and I did face painting which even the Grans got in on. Some pics below.

The School Production

It was Isabella's production tonight. It was based on the Sneetches story and Ella and her friend jenny played star belly sneetches/ girls in a ponsonby cafe being bitchy to the non star bellied sneetches. They both had these amazing wigs on and did really well with their parts...some pics below complete with wig and stage makeup

The ballet bun

I fear I was never destined to be a ballet mum...I signed Harriet up for fairy dance classes not realising it was part of a larger ballet school which put on a major production each year which the little fairy dancers take part in. Last week we got our four page instruction booklet for the performance...not four pages for the whole school but four pages just for the 7 fairy dancers. One page is entirely dedicated to a pictorial , step by step instruction list for the ballet bun, another has the hair product and acessories, and makeup list which they must bring to the performance. I have to say that even though ang and I do wear makeup on occassion our collection is obviously sadly lacking in some essentials that any good ballet mother would have. I went along saturday to the demonstration of the ballet bun and makeup...to be a ballet mum I obviously need my tops and jeans to be a couple of sizes tighter, an entirely different hairstyle and a makeup kit to rival any self respecting drag queen...most of them had a fishing tackle box full. We were assurred that miracles can be performed if you have enough hairspray, gel and clips but along with one other little girl I fear Harriet does not have enough hair to construct a ballet bun and will require a donut...not the sugar kind..but some sort of foam circle one pins into place, artfully arranges the aforementioned lack of hair over, secures with a hairnet and creates the illusion of a ballet bun. Makeup could well have been entitled from preschooler to drag queen in 1/2 an hour, I'm afraid our girl will be severely under made up as I don't think her delicate skin will handle the sheer volume of makeup expected. Never the less she is very excited about being in the production so ang and I will have to put on our pertest expressions and do our best to master the ballet bun.....Isabella's production which is wed night has simply required me to launder a pair of jeans and a T. shirt.
