Lovely Weekend

As well as super hero parties and enjoying the fabulous sunshine we got to finish Dexter season 2 with a marathon 3 episodes and the finale for Ang, Isabella and I Sat night, a sleep in for all sunday morning as the two smallest were on sleepovers, a visit to Kraft Bomb where Bean got a gorgeous bib and a special friend for his bassinette, and a fabric shop for change table and bassinette linen, photos of these to come but here are some of our lovely end to the day with a beach picnic tea with friends.

Does this dress make me look retro?

I think our love of all things retro and vintage may have rubbed off on Harriet. We found her this very gorgeous dress the other day and once she had put it on the other morning she came out and asked me "does this dress make me look retro?". She was very pleased when the answer was "yes baby, it does"

Not Really Loving Parenting Today....

I had a plan for today which involved going for a long morning walk and lots of errands, some well overdue and some fun...it was not to be.
The grumbly viral coughs the smalls have had which see them bright and happy during the day and coughing early morning and evening turned into double earache for Harriet and a more miserable Billy. They are both super clingy ( read here we will feel much better if we try and crawl under our mothers skin) and super scratchy with each other (read here if it annoys the other I'll do it twice as much till they squeal at me). Even at the Drs to check Harriet's ears, double viral ear infections, and Billy's chest, wheezy, they were squabbling over who sat in the chair by the DR. This continued through the two errands that couldn't be left another day. Parenting joys like this should be shared (read here I might go crazy if I don't have another adult for me or them to talk to until 7.30 tonight) so we went and picked up Ang for lunch in the park. Of course they were lovely for that hour, the squabbling began as soon as she hopped out of the car. Currently they are whining in the bedroom over space in our bed, they usually watch a DVD together quite happily. I'll leave you with these lovely (not really) pics of them and go administer pamol and set up another DVD in the lounge.

Old Annuals

I really like old annuals

and my lounge shelves reflect this, behind all the upright ones are stacks of others that come out in rotation so I had been curbing my oppy aquisitions (at no more than $1 each) of these.
Recently Isabella and I decided to handmake all our cards, her latest birthday presents to friends consisted of record bowls with some little Iko Iko goodies and some very cool retro cards she made from old books.
I have also been making cards for birthdays, new babies and other occasions.


This has meant I am back to acquiring old books, not for their covers this time but the pics inside.I have especially been looking out for pics for cards for boys.
Today I found this great book,

but inside the Odhams Wonder World of Knowledge 1961, has some gorgeous pics. I am even thinking some would make great wall pictures for the children and Bean's rooms.




I especially like this one with the nurses caps and know more than a few docs at work who would probably still like the nurses to dress and defer like this

Morning Walk

After walking harriet to school Billy and I carry on for an hours walk. Until recently he would fall asleep and I would get to plug into my i.pod and walk at a pace that meant I got a little fit on the walk.
Not any more, now he stays awake, doesn't really like it if I listen to music and when he knows we are close to home wants to get out and walk so we now go at almost 3yr old boy pace which means we stop and check out foliage, stand in the tunnel making echos,shut gates people have left open and check out letterbox numbers.
It is still a lovely way to spend the time but doesn't quite get the heart rate up to the pace I need to get fitter.
If you are woondering about his cool hat I saw it here and went up to their K.rd shop to get one, he loves it and it has barely been off his head since we got it which is a good thing considering the hot weather that has finally arrived.

Happy Birthday Nana Rie

Ang's mum turned 60 today so we celebrated with a picnic tea in the Domain. She will be having a big celebration in a few weeks but the small people enjoyed cake and running games by the Wintergardens tonight.

Bird Rescue

our 'not very popular when we discovered this' cat deposited a baby waxeye on the kitchen floor. Isabella consulted the SPCA website which said to put it in a container and place it back where it came from.


Harriet immediately ran to find the birds nest she had found a few months ago for the baby bird


and Isabella climbed on our roof and tied the nest inside an icecream container to the tree where we could hear and see the parent birds madly flying to and from. She couldn't spot the actual nest but the website said if we did this the parents would find and feed the baby.

It could fly a little so we are hoping it flew back to it's nest as when Isabella climbed up again today to check the nest was empty

Feeling very sad..

about the e.lection results and loosing Helen as leader of L.abour. What I really don't get is people who voted N.ational because " a change would be good' although no-one I've spoken to who voted for that reason can explain what that change may be or talk about any policy national may have except they 'promised more money' to higher income earners??? What I really don't get is people I work with who see first hand how many are struggling to make ends meet and the flow on effect this has on child health yet thought that by making the rich better off the poor would somehow follow suit. The only good thing was the Greens got more seats, this is the only thing that has made Isabella less upset about the results. Even Harriet is upset as she is very keen on Helen.
