Toothbrush

spotted this thistle plant while dropping Arlo off this morning

and remembered we used to pull the flowers apart

as kids to make

it's been a great way to learn about the camera on my phone

Day 30

Calm

this wee fella was the picture of calm

 at the Museum as Arlo and I watched him waiting to catch a fly

boY MonDay

Monday morning started with a request to make

 'scones like Peter's'

which means the Pinwheel scones he loves

at Alleluya

he pretty much did it all himself

and we had them with a hot chocolate

before heading out on a little excursion

does he look cold to you?

it took me a good 20 mins to persuade him into his coat

a little fountain running

before the weather really got too wet to stay

and we headed to the Museum

where we found this wee fella beside the car

Arlo was very concerned he had lost his Mother

this visit was all about skeletons

and small creatures

on leaving the worm was still there

so we moved him to the grass

where a long conversation ensued about where his Mother might be

and when she was coming back

it took quite some time to persuade him it would be alright to leave the worm there

for his Mother to find 

The Lion in the Meadow

Like many others I was saddened to hear of the death of 

Margaret Mahy

last week

Mum still has the 1969 1st Edition copy

from our childhood

which has been very loved

She says we got one of the first in NZ 

as my father worked for the publishing company at the time

The illustrations are fabulous, much better then later editions

which went all pastel

so I thought I would share some

it still has this ending which was changed in later editions

to something like

'they all lived happily ever after'

Billy to school on a very wet Monday

Coat- handmade by me from a vintage wool blanket

thrifted by Sila

Billy asked me a few weeks ago to make him a coat like this

after seeing a similar adult one in a Kingsland shop

you can imagine how happy this made me

and if I could have started sewing then I would have

I had to draft together 3 patterns to get what I wanted

and let Billy choose the lining

when we got to the material shop his eyes lit up on seeing

the kiwiana fabric

he came running with the bolt saying

'they have Maori fabric - this is all I want'

I added some of my vintage scout badges

and left the original wool blanket label on the pocket piece

Billy chose the buttons from my collection Sunday night

and wore it to school Monday morning
