Pride parade was a whānau affair this year

The Twig and Tale Upcycling Blog Tour

today it's my turn to share my upcycling for the
Twig and Tale Blog Tour
 this totally appealed to me because it combined 

my love of thrifted items and Twig and Tale patterns 

I started with a pair of womens pants, an old wool blanket and a blue suede off cut I found for $1.40

and turned them into 

an Evergreen Bonnet, Tree Climbing Pants 

and some Wild Things Boots

I set myself the task of using as much of the pants

 as I could and wanted to use 

the existing side and back pockets 

as well as the waistband

to start with I cut the pants up all the leg seams

 until I had 4 pieces

than I took the Tree Climbing Pants pieces 

and folded them over at the waistband allowance 

this meant I could place them on the top 

of the waistband of the pants,

up against the side pockets on the front pieces 

and over the back welt pockets

 to sew the side and crotch seams
I needed to unpick the inside waistband

and open it up before sewing to the top, of the inner waistband

It then got folded back down 

and sewn again to form the elastic casing

this gave my pants some lovely pocket 

and waistband details 

without having to create them myself

I also took some inspiration from another love of mine
 the iconic Crown Lynn Swan

I used this motif for the bonnet and boots

Crown Lynn, for those of you not from NZ 

is NZ pottery produced from the 1940s onward 

which has become quite collectable of late

but my swan came from the days
where you could still find them
in Op shops for a few dollars

my bonnet and boots were made from the wool blanket

lined with what remained of the  pants for both

and also the motif on the bonnet which I appliqued on

the suede was used for the soles,
toes and motifs on the boots

 the outfit was perfect for some park  exploring

watching the swans

 and climbing

The Barefoot Romper

I recently got to test an amazing new romper pattern

from Twig and Tale

the romper goes from prem to 10yrs

and has so many options for front, straps, pockets and length

and works in almost all fabrics including knit

this one was a really soft lawn

next up was a wee vintage border print cotton

 and for my last test romper I tried the sz 10

I love how this looks on Billy

 I did some cuff and strap detailing

this is one pattern you should definitely check out
