Billy's idea for Monday was to go on the bus so we caught the bus to downtown and the ferry terminal and hopped aboard the boat to Devonport

Both boys were very excited to stand outside and watch the waves

first stop was the playground

followed by finding a cafe for a warm drink, on the way Billy was captivated by this shop window

after morning tea and a little look in the oppy and the toy shop the smallest boy fell asleep so we headed down to the beach

where we put together a little treat from the toy shop, a le.go figure which is a suprise until you open the bag and discover which one you have

we were both very pleased to get the nurse, even if that injection does seem mighty big

the morning turned out to be all about science,

figuring out why his boots sank in the sand

and doing experiments about floating and sinking

it turns out if you walk to the end of the stone pier

and find all sorts of flotsam on the beach and carry it along

and toss it off

some things sink but if the tide is coming in over an hour things float right back to the beach you got them from

and you can retrieve them again

after a ferry ride back we completed our public transport outing with a train ride home

a look at all the construction going on around the station

and some balancing

while waiting for hot chips and sauce to eat on the walk back home

Papa and the boys

Sunday afternoon saw us heading down the line to help the boy's Papa celebrate his birthday

Papa made them an indoor slide

Saturday Cabin Fever

Saturday morning looked like this, too foggy to see much at all

luckily some brightness arrived in the mail, scarves from Gran for Sheepie and Quincy.
But after a week of everyone being sick there was some serious cabin fever going on so by 1pm we decided the weather looked good enough to head out to the west coast

to blow out some cobwebs with a walk at Te henga

once down on the beach we were greeted by a huge rainbow arcing across the sand

and some blue sky appearing in time for cartwheels

and digging and collecting

we headed down the beach

towards the pirate cave

this was Billy's first time getting to explore inside the cave and he declared it definately somewhere pirates would bury treasure

then there was some kelp collecting

some snacks

some jumping

and climbing

and a small boy who after taking an hours nap in the backpack woke up in time to walk back along the beach

and join in some digging

by the time we headed home the cabin fever was much improved, and I yes couldn't resist buying this hoodie for Billy with his name and the words 'camp goods' on it
