A new addition

Billy decided on Friday he neeeeded a pet 't'cos I don't have a pet all of my very own'
At playgroup he found 'Pay'...a very small praying mantis who came home for the weekend as his pet, however we weren't sure pay was up to the job and he was getting a little overshaken every time Billy tried to find him in his container.....so we decided a goldfish might be a better option and went on Monday to acquire one.

Billy is taking his pet responsibilities very seriously so far and we now have 'Goldie the Goldfish' as a new family addition

blue gingham from some thrifted material and the dolphin material has been in my stash for 12yrs, when Isabella was 3yrs old and everything had to be whales and dolphins she had shorts made of this material

this week I had a chance to make the 90 min shirt from this tutorial
it is made from an old long sleeved tee of mine and there was enough material for a little hat from a pattern in my new sewing book

complete with little ears

I think Arlo will be getting quite a few more of these and I'm working on sizing up the pattern for Billy

I drafted the pattern off another dress of hers and had just enough (literally) of this vintage material to make it

the pockets came from the material cut out of the armholes, the hem was overlocked then turned under .5cm and we just managed to line the bodice

Melting

we are in the middle of some very humid weather that is making for hot, tired , sticky, grumpy small people so most of our time is being spent trying to stay cool and avoiding the mothers becoming too tired and grumpy too...

The revolutionary fabric of 1950s fashion: when first introduced it was very expensive and could only be bought in upmarket dress shops. Crimplene was the original trade name for a polyester fabric. It enabled everyone to wear white and pastel colours because it could be washed easily. Unlike white nylon, polyester does not yellow with age and sunlight. The fabric also tailored well and could be made into button front, double breasted, wide collar dresses and retain a crisp appearance through washing.

Birthday Celebrations

there were two family birthday celebrations today
the first birthday boy was Sol's beloved PooH bear

Sol has had PooH for a few years but this was the first time we have celebrated his birthday. Apparently Feb 9th is his birthday and he was 6 today, so Sol invited us and Gran to afternoon tea
