Billy is One

It's hard to beleive how fast the 12 months have gone since I was holding a tiny bundle in my arms. He has been such a delicious baby I am more than a little sad he is 1yr old already. He however is loving all the new things he can do. He is just starting to crawl on hands and knees instead of commando style, has lots of new words including his name, still loves books and will read for ages, is a bit of a Hi5 addict, makes a break for the outdoors whenever he can and points to his swing.
As this was a crazy time of year for a big party we will have his one year old party in feb on the anniversary of his naming day. Tonight was his family dinner and he got to taste a lolly and chocolate cake for the first time..he loved them. We were very pleased sol could join us as he has just spent two nights in hospital with asthma and a chest infection. He had no intentions of following Drs orders for a quiet time and was in full party mood with his little cousin. Billy loved his ride on car from gran , xylophone from barb and new books plus trying out his new little couch.
Happy Birthday Baby Boy...we love you

Billy is 11 months

we were lucky enough to spend Billy's 11 month birthday with his great grandmother and nana in Taumarunui. Isabella, Billy and I took a road trip south picking up his nana on the way and dropping Isabella in Te Kuiti to stay with her mamma for a night.
Billy was able to show off all his tricks for his great grandmother including lots of 'thankyous' and his love of books. He will happily sit with a pile of books looking at the pages one by one. He is getting much faster with his crawling and even had a go at Big Nans steps. He got to enjoy her garden and to visit the Manunui walkway which she has been the co ordinator for, building a walkway by the whanganui river planted with native trees. It is an amazing place. For a boy who did about 8hrs of car travel over two days he did really well with only one 20 minute crying episode..it was a long twenty minute though.

A day of firsts.....

well life as we knew it is officially over, the small boy is mobile. He has been almost there for a few weeks but today the lure of the fridge magnets led him to crawl into the kitchen, from where he proceeded to open the pantry and climb on the dishwasher door...I guess we are putting up the gate and baby proofing this weekend. His crawl is still a little like flipper but I'm sure he will perfect staying up on his knees soon. I'm sure it's because yesterday I commented that it would be nice if he held off crawling one more week until we visited his great grandmother.

Miss Isabella attended her first greenpeace volunteer meeting tonight, this is the girl who has wanted to work for greenpeace since she was 5yrs old and donates her pocket money to greenpeace and unicef every month. She has been busy the last year doing lots of online stuff, emails to parliament, signing petitions but tonight she actually went to her first meeting. By the look on her face when we walked in you would have thought she had won the lotto, when I came back to get her 2hrs later she was stuffing envelopes with a group, listening to a report on climate change and wasn't nearly ready to come home as she still needed a tour of the offices, to be set up with the teenage group here and to get some info on bottom trawling for her school project. I am so proud of her, the first thing the co-ordinator said when I walked back in was 'she is amazing'. I guess she takes after her gran and her mum as alot of my teenage years were spent at protest rallies, joining action groups at school and being involved in greenpeace issues.

Dance

miss Harriets life has been about dance with two fairy dance performances a Bollywood show and a Diwali concert. Once again ang has had to construct ballet buns, not just on harriet but two of her little friends whose mothers went slightly pale at the complicated instructions...some of you may remember we actually had to attend a workshop last year on constructing the ballet bun and applying more makeup than your average drag queen. This year harriet was a princess and a pink fairy...the dance school only lets an official photographer take shots which were taken backstage last year but this year there was an official photo shoot day where we had to help them into costumes and there were more than a few sneaky pics taken on cell phones and small pocketed digital cameras hence the pic of harriet in her pink fairy outfit.
We are looking forward to a much quieter month although I know she will miss the bollywood lessons which don't start again till next year, mind you she watches the video daily and still goes to sleep listening to the soundtrack.
some pics below

Billy is 10 months....

and I am in total denial that my baby is approaching his first birthday, it has gone by way too fast. He is still not crawling...yay...but is a bit of a stealth mover, you put him down, look up a minute or two later and he has moved across the room but is still sitting exactly the same way. He is doing a bit of rocking on his hands and knees but no forward movement. He is totally into books at the moment, will pick the book basket above the toy basket and loves lift the flap books, he can do all the flaps himself. He has added thank you and up to his vocab and the occasional mamma. He likes to stand up in the bath and hold onto the taps rather than sit down and thinks it's great fun to roll away when you are trying to dress him. He has spent alot of the last month at dance rehearsals or shows and he loves the music, he did alot of clapping at harriets shows and mostly stayed awake through them all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAN

Nache baliye

saturday night was harriets bollywood dance show. It was amazing, she pretty much stole the show as the smallest dancer there, we had many people come up to us after and say how fabulous she was and that they were only watching her when she was on stage. We were so proud of her, it was a two hour show and although she wasn't in all the dances she did great in the ones she was in. The rest of the dances were fantastic too. I have to download and edit from the video cam but below are some pics from the end of the show and a couple of videos from our digital camera. She is the littlest one in gold and purple in the first two and in green and blue in the last one. She looked amazing with bangles right up both arms and her hair all done.

Happy 6th Birthday to Kahi

billy is 9 months

Cool Slideshows

the beautiful boy is 9 months old. He has his plunket visit on thurs so will have some stats than. He is very nearly mobile going from sitting to lying and when I left him on his tummy the other day I heard him squawking and he had got himself backwards across the floor and lodged under the couch. He says alot of ella, dada and puss when our cat walks by but is still a little lacking on the mummy/mama front...he can say it but doesn't very often. Ang thinks a certain whingy noise he makes when he wants me is his preferred version of mummy. Having mastered clapping and waving he now does 'hands up' thanks to us all singing him that bad 80's song hands up, baby , hands up. He also does what we call his superhero arm where he gets excited to see people and puts his arm straight out aka superman and makes a sssss sound...we think he can be superbaby for halloween. He also plays peekaboo with his towel or muslin putting it over his face, waiting for you to say 'wheres billy' than pulling it down again. He is loving swimming lessons and just this month has decided food is a good thing after all.

The last month...

I have been a bit remiss in updating the blog the last month. Our laptop had to go for a visit to the place laptops go when they think it is a good idea to spontaneously turn off every five minutes and life just seems to have gotten busier.
Billy will be 9 months on thursday so will do his own update then but he continues to be a delight who is trying really hard to get mobile. Miss Isabella is in the final week of term and has just completed her science fair project. She is working hard at trying to grow taller than me.
Which brings us to miss Harriet who has a bad case of 4.5yr olditis which is presenting with a combination of dissolving into tears at every little thing including going to school which she has been doing quite happily for the last 2.5yrs, and having a sassy, answer back reply for everything we say to her...can you say EXHAUSTING in the parenting department. The girl is operating on quite a few sticker charts at the moment. But between these episodes of less than stellar behaviour she is busy, busy, busy with dance. Her Bollywood show is in 3 weeks and we have twice weekly rehersals plus her fairy dance show is in 5 weeks and we are again having to sort out ballet buns and makeup worthy of the best drag queens.
On friday night we got to escape with Hamish and Fern and go see michael Franti and Spearhead http://www.spearheadvibrations.com/index.html, this was the fifth concert I have seen here and the big man was fantastic as always. We had sore feet from 2 hours of solid dancing. We have been listening to Yell Fire, his latest album in the car for the last month and the girls know all the words plus have favourites so I have put together a little montage of pics from the last month along with Harriets favourite song from Spearhead.

WEED THIEVES

this billborad is not far from our house and is a subject of total fascination for harriet. Initially it was the giant sandwiches but then of course she wanted to know what was in the other bag.The first week it was up nothing dissappeared than, the sticky buds went one by one..the perfect student/stoner flat accessory I think. They were replaced than went again, than the sanwiches went, than several more bags of sticky buds. We drive past most days and harriet looks to see what is there, we have taken a walk to see it and notice the holes in the bottom of the bag. last friday the dope was there in the morning, gone by lunch and the truck was putting more up in the afternoon...a great source of conversation. Harriet does much speculating on who has taken it and what they are doing with it, and what kind of sandwiches they are. I never thought I would be having a daily conversation with my 4 year old about bags of dope...but now I have found this little video I can answer her questions about who takes it and how they get it out.

Billy is 8 months old today.....

He now has 4 teeth and is working on a couple more. He says dada, ella, bubba and hi...no mummy or mama you'll note. He is just delightful and very good at sitting and playing with his toys. He loves his big sisters especially Isabella and we are sure once he gets mobile she will have a small boy following her everywhere. His favourite trick is clapping, if you say pakipaki he claps madly and is very pleased with himself. Today he also waved for the first time...at who...Isabella of coursePosted by Picasa

wet weekend

it was a wet, blustery weekend but also the one we had booked a holiday house with friends. We got one nice morning on the beach but otherwise it pretty much rained. The kids had a ball anyway, these were the same families we went away with in Jan and the kids love holidaying together. It was a big two storied house and Isabella and her friend Madeline played alot of hide and seek, treasure hunt, pillow fights, jumping on and off the bunks with the kids. There were whole hours when all the adults were sitting round drinking tea, talking and reading trashy magazines uninterrupted, not to mention getting sleepins or afternoon naps plus we had great food to eat. some pics of the kids below

Our Weekend

this weekend we celebrated uncle hamish's birthday with a family dinner on saturday night.
last year I had to construct bowling green cake at the children's request, this year I wasn't feeling so creative so went with an adult chocolate mud with kahlua fudge sauce cake . After the smalls were asleep and kindly being looked after by the grans and billy's dad we went to the Fly my Pretties concert http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=54528581. It was a great concert, check out the link to hear some of their stuff.
Sunday while pop mak and ang restored our laundry to working order the smalls and I joined friends for a blustery walk along piha beach.
