On the first day of the hols.....

you can still be in your pajamas blowing bubbles at 11am

we did however go for a walk to the library after that and Harriet even rode her bike. A month ago a bike ride was a torturous peddle twice- brake-peddle twice-brake affair which had frayed everyones nerves in the space between the letterbox and the end of the street. We decided the small girl needed more bike time so have been getting her out each weekend.

Today she rode or pushed her bike the whole hour or more round trip to the library including a big hill with no dramas- go harriet- and we were all rewarded with the 'longest drink in town' at our local coffee hangout.

The afternoon was spent washing all the shop and kitchen playstuff which has been wintering in the playhouse and some mosaic.

Birthday Tea

Tonight was Kahi's birthday tea for his 8th birthday. He is such a gorgeous boy, it doesn't seem like 8yrs since he was this little.

He wanted a kiwi icon cake..much simpler than last years Hogwarts castle so we went with a kiwi eating a hokey pokey icecream- can't get much more kiwiana than that.
Both boys had also won awards in todays end of term Principals assembly.

Happy Birthday Kahi

What could make a small boy so happy?

The council are digging up our street and this week our front path to seperate the storm water and other waste ( a very good use of my rates money for once) and they have at least 3 or 4 diggers in the street each day..and they left one parked outside our house all weekend.

Aotearoa-Our Home

Harriet's school put on a great performance on Thursday night. It was pretty hard to get good pics but I do have some video footage.

Even though she wasn't a native tree she still wanted me to make her something like the tree costumes so we came up with the idea of hair ties, 1 kowhai and 1 koromiko which i made out of the felt scraps for her.

Some pics with Aunty Pippa and Mama afterwards.

Heart Felt

I was lucky enough to win a give away from the lovely Jannelle at HeartFelt
and these great patches arrived in the post yesterday.
Harriet has already asked for the heart and butterfly and I have a plan for trousers for bean with the other two. Jannelle makes the most gorgeous upcycled pure wool knits which you can check out at her blog (where you will also get to see her two very cute smalls) or at clever bastards, Felt or her etsy shop for my north american readers, these would be a great piece of kiwi pure wool for your smalls going into winter.
We were especially excited that she sent us a wee cardigan for our bean and for those of you who know Ang's love of green woollens it couldn't have been a more perfect choice for her baby.

Thanks Jannelle and this Tues when I get a day to myself I am looking forward to doing some sewing with the patches.

Weekend Adventures

The biggest and the littlest.....It would seem Ella and Billy did a little collaborating on their friday wardrobes

Saturday morning after a quick visit for Billy to see his Daddy at his shop, we headed off to a park, this is one we drive past every week but have only just 'discovered'. It has two great playgrounds, a bike track and 'pirate planks' through the wetlands, although Billy was a bit dissapointed not to find a pirate ship at the end of the planks. Harriet on the other hand was thrilled to be pointing out native trees they have been studying at school. She also got in some good bike riding.

We saw this very cute family

who weren't infact swimming in the stream but just in the field..it really has been a little wet lately

the grans provided us with a very yummy lunch and afterwards gran weeded the sandpit
while Harriet helpfully replanted the weeds and watered them in

Billy and Barb checking out the garden

saturday ended with a big fire, toasted marshmellows, early nights for small people and some grown up visitors and scrabble for the mammas.

Sunday morning I checked out a great vintage fabric fair before having to work on a presentation so Ang and Harriet went bike riding and exploring and native tree planting with Aunty Margaret.
