The night...

Arlo wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind and another

his mother called him "WILD THING"
and Arlo said "I'LL EAT YOU UP!"
so he was sent to bed without eating anything.

That very night in Arlo's room a forest grew
and grew

and grew until his ceiling hung with vines
and the walls became the world all around

and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Arlo
and he sailed off through night and day
and in and out of weeks
and almost over a year
to where the wild things are.

And when he came to the place where the wild things are
they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws

till Arlo said "BE STILL"
and tamed them with the magic trick
of staring into their yellow eyes without blinking once
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
and made him king of all wild things.
"And now," cried Arlo, "let the wild rumpus start!"
"Now stop!" Arlo said and sent the wild things off to bed
without supper. And Arlo the king of all things was lonely
and wanted to be where someone loved him most of all.
Then all around from far away across the world
he smelled good things to eat
so he gave up being king of where the wild things are.

But the wild things cried, "Oh please don't go-
we'll eat you up-we love you so!"
And Arlo said, "NO!"
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
but Arlo stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye
and sailed back over a year
and in and out of weeks
and through a day
and into the night of his very own room
where he found his supper waiting for him
and it was still hot.

Arlo's outfit made from Kwik Sew 2919, I used cream flannel to make the suit and added covered buttons instead of a zip. The feet were made by sewing 4 little triangles and stuffing them than sewing them into the foot seam, hands were made by tracing the size of his mitten and adding little stuffed triangles than sewing to the cuff of the suit. The horns were again stuffed triangles of fabric hand sewn onto the hood and the tail was a piece of black feather boa cut to size and stitched on.

Labour Weekend Adventures

the promise of sunshine for the long weekend and wanting to see the building work saw us heading to Orua on Friday afternoon

after checking out the new deck there was time for a twilight beach walk

Saturday morning was gloriously sunny

we went on a bush walk

played some swingball

and our lovely friends arrived and set up their tent before heading down for another beach walk

crabs were the no.1 treasure to be found

pancake brunch on Sunday before checking out the Awhitu markets for homemade bread and other picnic goodies

for a day at the beach

the small people braved their first swim of the season although no-one really ventured above their knees

Arlo loved the sand and thought it the perfect dip for his biscuit

numerous treasure hunts were planned and played by the small people

although Billy's clues were a little cryptic

compared to others
the adults had to provide alot of treasure

Arlo got to enjoy the Orua tradition of an open air tub bath

another view of the building work

Monday morning chill out time

before heading down to complete the fairy garden we started on Saturday morning with some toadstools from the market

and a wee fairy holiday house Ang built from driftwood

a last swing as the grey clouds started to roll in Monday afternoon

and a stop for afternoon tea at the Bird Park on the way home
